I know one of my Facebook friends posted something like this a few months ago. I have had the same experience with my children in elementary school. It was a simple division problem(3 digit number divided by a 2 digit number).I tried to figure it out they way the problem stated to be figured out. Aft 20 minutes I said the hell with it. I took it to work with me the next day and had 2 chemistry scientists look at it and they couldnt figure it out. A third walked in and said, oh ya, I seen something like that before that my kid brought home from school. But admittedly he couldnt figure it out. I emailed the teacher with this, and the teacher apologized saying that this is a state requirement for common core mathematics. I remind you this was elementary school, no instructions were included. Home work comes home on a photo copied sheet with no instrucitons. If anyone knows I would like to find a group who is getting together to eliminate this common core teaching methods. And, by the way, just as in this article, the old division took my daughter less than 2 minutes and we both along with 3 scientists couldnt figure out the common core method.
