On purpose, I have a racially diverse network of friends, family, and colleagues. I chose my neighborhood, my church, and my graduate institution with this goal in mind. I believe our world is most beautiful when we strive to live, work, and play with those who share a common humanity versus skin color. So its disappointing that the vast majority of folks interested in learning and discussing the fight for justice and equality (at least as evidenced by social media) are people of color. Be my friend even when it means you have to stand up for something that may not benefit you directly. Otherwise, are we friends? (Yes, the incident in Ferguson inspired this).
