I know technically historic items arent artifacts… but this is a piece from my collection… collected in Gray Horse, Oklahoma, on the Osage Indian reservation, in the 1950s, by S. Freeland of Dewey, Oklahoma. Dates to the late 1800s / early 1900s. It isnt actually a necklace, it is a strange beaded mass of strands of beads and loops, not really forming any kind of identifiable ornament. I think it was probably some sort of talisman for a medicine bundle, or a personal totem. Glass seed beads, glass tube wampum beads, amethyst glass Czechoslovakian druk beads, a small bear claw, and a crinoid fossil bead, all on cotton thread.
