I know that many of you know my mom, but how many of you REALLY know Edeanne Batti Howes? Some of you know her as a high school beauty queen. Some of you know her as a young country girl riding horses on the farm while always longing for the city, moving to both LA and San Francisco, keeping score at every baseball game and being comfortable living in fantastically diverse urban neighborhoods. Lots of you know her as the tough Italian gal who beat countless country boys at trap shoot with her 12 gauge and enjoyed roughin it up at the ranch in the mountains... snakes, spiders, outhouse and all. Many of you know her as the tiger mom who grounded us for bringing home an A minus on a report card and spied on us to make sure we were always where we were supposed to be. Tons of you know her today as the classy gal who enjoys travel, Broadway, social events and wine. This woman put herself through both undergrad and graduate school while we were young, was a loved school teacher for many years, ran for public office, served children and her community by sitting on multiple boards for years, and still managed to always put her three kids first. AND she just beat breast cancer. Mom, youre the strongest person I know, and Ive always looked up to you. May we have many more special years together. Happy birthday... I love you!
