I know that when sewing the paper patterns are printed to use a 5/8 inch seam allowance. But is it a written rule to use a 1/4 inch seam (I know, there are no quilt police, but I see lots of references to 1/4 inch) for a quilt. I use 3/8 because it is the easiest to line up on my machine. The plate has all the different fractions on there but that is what I use. I do understand it would depend of the kind of quilt of course.
