I know we usually dont post about politics here, but what I am sharing here has to do with our schools. Trustee Gearity has the public endorsement of a at least 2 long-term Ossining Board of Education Trustees and has already started building long neglected bridges between the BOE and the Village Planning Board so that any new residency units built will consider the space and cost impact on our schools. As noted on her website: “We must take advantage of the opportunities for school district concerns to be addressed during the planning process, while exploring more ways to ensure that our school buildings have room for the children of Ossining without overburdening taxpayers. My outreach to our village planner, planning board, school administration, and board of education opened up a dialogue for a better understanding of how development impacts our school system. I am currently exploring how developers may be able to help fund future capital projects, like constructing classrooms for our increasing enrollment.” That is just one example of Trustee Gearity’s collaborative management style; a non-imperialistic approach which demonstrates her desire to serve rather than dictate. Further, despite the continued assertions that the illegal housing issue has not been addressed to date because state and / or federal law prevents Ossining from enforcing its own Village Code, I have not seen any information shared about the mayors advocacy with our state and federal governments or elected officials. The overcrowding of these illegally modified homes is most probably a portion of the reason that our schools are bursting at the seams. Im at a loss to understand why the mayor would virtually just shrug his shoulders, wipe his hands off, and say, Oh, well. Nothing I can do, their laws trump ours. Why, in all these many years, hasnt there been a firestorm of activity in Albany and DC or in the press spearheaded by the mayor so this problem can be eradicated?? Victoria also has two kids that are in early elementary school so she sees the issues of the schools 1st hand and obviously wants to help address the issues however she can! I hope you will join me and many others (regardless of your registered party affiliation) in voting Victoria Gearity for mayor!
