I learned about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by being a rebellious - TopicsExpress

I learned about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by being a rebellious child. I was raised up by a hard working man who was extremely narrow minded and prejudiced. He didnt approve of his daughters associating with blacks or Hispanics and was very vocal in his opinions about this. I hated the way my Father would make me feel when he would do that. I knew he was wrong, because I secretly had friends he did not approve of and I wanted desperately to prove him wrong. So, just to be a little shit, I did something that changed my life but I didnt know it at the time. When our class electives came up instead of taking Home Economics I decided to take Black History. I was the only while student in the class and for a while no one was sure why I was there but it didnt last long. I learned all about Martin Luther King, Angela Davis, the Black Panthers and the Watts riots. Daddy didnt like it but there wasnt much he could do about it. It was one of the best decisions I ever made because I let my own opinions guide me instead of my Fathers. Thanks Dr King for all you gave to all of us.
