I left this mornings mathematical problem solving workshop - TopicsExpress

I left this mornings mathematical problem solving workshop conducted by my kids primary school with a rather heavy heart and feeling defeated. Worried faces were prevalent among the crowd. The workshop was well intended and has definitely met the objective of giving me the following realisations: 1) I am no longer able to coach them at higher primary. 2) todays problem sums can only be solved efficiently by todays methods. 3) empathise more with what my kids are put through. My only hope is that the kids will absorbed better with a fresh and open mind. Granted there are many gifted students in Singapore today, either by nature or nurture (tuition), but for MOE to set the bar so high is a puzzling decision that has left many parents wondering why.
