I listened to President Obama’s statement today on the missile attack against a civilian airliner. Earlier today at the United Nations, the U.S. presented persuasive evidence of Russian involvement in escalating the conflict in recent weeks and in playing a substantial role in this atrocity. Unfortunately, the President did not say what actions he would take in response. The contrast with President Reagan’s speech after the Soviets shot down a Korean Air Lines flight 007 in 1983 is striking. He used clear language, gave specific steps he was taking to isolate the Soviets, and called on Congress to increase defense spending. You can read Reagan’s speech below.
