I live in a home in Mound that was affected by the sewer backups. - TopicsExpress

I live in a home in Mound that was affected by the sewer backups. We had raw sewage streaming from our toilet, shower drain and a floor drain for over 14 hours. I had to open a back patio door to let the water, feces, and other toxic debris out of the house. Unfortunately Lake Minnetonka is 40 feet from this patio door and was flooded with the same crap as my entire basement. I notified the city and sheriff about a dozen times during the 14 hours that this was occurring but not once did any help arrive. Today I learned that our insurance doesnt cover this and per Carlton Moore, Mound Public Works Director, the city of Mound is not accepting any responsibility. The City of Mound did feel the civic duty to save 1000 homes from sewer backups by pumping raw feces ultimately into Lake Minnetonka. Its too bad that they dont feel the same level of responsibility to the homeowners that DID sustain sewer backups. It has already cost us $3500 for the first days worth of hazard cleanup, with another $3000 for the remaining work. We have heard estimates up to $40k to complete the repairs plus another $15-20k to replace furniture and other personal items. Who pays for this? The city who caused it, or the homeowner who suffered through it?
