Sustainable development and the preservation of habitats are intended to bring the interests of environmental protection and commerce into harmony, thus enabling people and nature to coexist. Committed to protect the environment, a joint operation was conducted by personnel of Butuan City Police Station 3 (BCPS) and Butuan City Public Safety Company (Bonbon COMPAC) around 1:30 AM of August 11, 2014 at Purok-2A, Tuway, Brgy. Bonbon, Butuan City on the allege on-going Illegal Mining Operations at Purok-2A, Tuway, Brgy. Bonbon, Butuan Cit, which was reported thru telephone call by Hon. Segundina Mundia, Brgy. Chairwoman of Brgy. Bonbon this city. Said operation resulted in the apprehension of the nine (9) alleged illegal miners/operators, to wit: Neil Dela Cruz y Cañon, 32 years old, married, sales executive of Creative Program Inc. and a resident of Blk-1, Lot 9, Happy Homes Subdivision, Brgy. Ambago, Butuan City; Marlon Gonhuran y Mantog, 25 years old, single, self-employed and a resident of 2nd Street, Guingona Subdivision, Purok-2, Brgy. Jose P. Rizal, Butuan City; Samson Pableo y Casinao, 53 years old, married, Diesel/Gas Mechanic and a resident of Purok-3B, Brgy. Bading Butuan City; Diosdado Soria y Turawan, 25 years old, married, Farmer and a resident of Purok-2, Bonifacio, Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte; David Salvaña y Polinar, 25 years old, married farmer; Juanito Euraba y Pacatang, 54 years old, single; Concordio Galvo y Ladra, 41 years old, married, hauler/laborer; Diosdado Linao y Soria, 51 years old, Driver of Heavy Equipment; and Tadashi Ogawa y Linao, 27 years old, married all residents of Montilla Street, Brgy. San Ignacio, Butuan City. Seized from the suspect’s possession were the following mining equipment to wit: k. One (1) unit Motor Engine ICHIBAN 3.5 HP, LT168F120309285; l. Black Plastic Pipe; m. Four (4) pieces shovel (PALA); n. Two (2) Steel bars (BARA); and o. One (1) piece heavy hammer. Apprehended suspects and seized items were brought to BCPS 3 for proper filing of case. Public safety remains to be the top priority of the PNP. Destruction of lives and property caused by continuous misuse, abuse, and malpractices of the people on our natural resources must be fully stopped in order to protect these resources and promote public safety. Hence, the PNP, being deputized to enforce environmental laws, should relentlessly conduct operations that would effect the arrest and conviction of violators and pre-empt the same from ensuing.
