I live in a very small world. I love it. I was raised in a community that was about two miles long and two cornfields wide. Downtown Franklin has that similar intimacy. I dropped off my tax information with my accountant, who is a former business partner. At the post office, I had a long conversation with my former Providence House book publisher. At 4:42 it was too late to go the Merridees. Without having to move my car I went to Frothy Monkey and had coffee with one of our outstanding high school principals and one of our Authors Circle writers. Life is good in Historic Downtown Franklin. On my way home, I stopped at Landmark Booksellers for Tom Collins signing event and spent time with the senior editor who initiated my weekly newspaper column. While he and I were sitting outside we were joined by Hugh DuPree, former chairman of the Williamson County Republican Party, who will soon be a county commissioner, I hope. I like having Merridees as my philosophy office; the Frothy Monkey for weekdays after five; and the Coffee House at 2nd & Bridge for its literary atmosphere for our writers meetings. Having friends in Downtown Franklin is sort of like a continuing family reunion.
