I lost my dog today. Ive had her for as long as Ive been mother to my daughter, Dylan. I rescued her when she was 14 months old and Dylan was 12 days old. Ill never forget her battered, yet beautiful face sniffing at my newborn with her tail going a mile a minute. Im pretty sure she fell in love with that tiny little baby right at that moment and never stopped from that point on. Those two grew up together and loved each other as only a kid with her doggie could ever understand. I wouldnt say she was a good dog since she had aggression issues and didnt trust new people easily. But, we loved her and she loved us with all of her heart and soul. I hate knowing she left the world without me or her kids by her side, but I take comfort in knowing her next favorite person, Craig was with her as she laid down for the last time. Here is his words about the awesomely-bad dog, Red: Today I want to celebrate the life of LaChelles dog Red. Red was a big ole RED BLOODHOUND. Her ears were long and droopy just like her face and jowls. She bayed with the best of them and even tried barkingish for a while there. She was lovable in her own ornery way. She had some attitude and liked doing things her way. She loved her kennel and wasnt happy until there was something fluffy in there for her to snuggle up into. Her food was hers and please mind yourself at her dinner time. She was a good looking hound, even turned the snout of a Westminster Bloodhound Champion one cold winters day. She would lay at your feet and nose you until you rubbed your feet across her, never enough feet rubbing Red was her forte. Shed race to the front door, baying, with the hair on her back standing tall at the slightest of noises. Always on the alert... When she was awake! When Red wasnt sure if she was supposed to like you, well cheese was always the answer to calm her nerves. She loved cheese and anyone offering her some was her new bestest friend. She protected her girls with a fever though she did. More than a couple times she had to remind a few people that LaChelle, Taylor and Dylan were her humans and dont let her catch you getting anywhere close. LaChelle found Red as a rescue, all beat up and tattered. Under fed, mistreated, and in serious need of love. Dylan was just an infant then, and Red took an immediate liking to her. In the years since that fateful day, Red never again new hunger, always a warm fluffy bed and she was loved. Red is a dog I will never forget, I didnt understand her at first and I think she didnt know how to understand me. In the years since she and I had gone from sort of putting up with each other, to giving each other just enough space to being happy to see each other after a long day. I will miss you Red. I may not have been your human but I will always remember you as one of my most favorite dogs ornery and all.
