I love Stephen A. Smith. No DOUBT, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell - TopicsExpress

I love Stephen A. Smith. No DOUBT, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell screwed up by giving Ray Rice only a two week suspension. What Ive heard discussed on NFL Radio is that ONE problem (and perhaps THE problem) is that Ray Rice had previously been a model citizen NFL veteran. In fact, he was routinely held up to other rookies coming into the league as an example of how to live your life as an NFL star. Rice apparently had a very good relationship with the commissioner as well in terms of helping with other problem players. SOOoooooooo, when suddenly you see a video tape of Ray Rice dragging his fiance/wife out of an elevator and it certainly looks like some violence happened, the positive past got in the way of common sense and good judgement. One NFL analyst went so far as to say if it had been any of 90% of the other NFL players, they would have likely gotten a much more harsh penalty. Goodell screwed up the initial suspension and made it light because of the NFLs history with Ray Rice as a man they thought was a model citizen. YES -- clearly we see now that this was a mistake, BUT its a mistake. Does Goodell have to RESIGN his job because of one mistake? I agree with Stephen A. Smith, even though I totally agree that violence toward women or ANYONE is intolerable. I simply see the truth that what happened was a MISTAKE in sentencing (if you will) the offender versus any nature of dismissing the crime itself. They screwed up the sentencing. Thats a mistake. Thats all. We all agree it was wrong, but I also dont think its so severe or intentional that the commissioner should resign.
