I love all of the righteous indignation people have here about Suarez biting someone. Obviously you dont bite someone. And yeah, you deserve to get banned a few games. A few games, not months though. The majority of people who are freaking out about this, arent from Latin America. They are laughing this off. They admire his will to win. Thats the culture he was brought up in and plays by. This is a part of the world where own-goals in a huge game can get someone killed. Its only in the Western world where this is a huge deal. Its a small bite, thats all. Here is what it is not, a Kung Fu kick that connects with a fan (Eric Cantona - Manchester United), Match fixing (Pretty much all of Eastern European football, Italy, and parts of Greece), a slide with spikes up designed to break a leg and possibly end a career (Balotelli, Italy WC-2014), the blatant racism in the stands towards anyone of color playing in a match (Pretty much anywhere in Europe). There was no blood from the Suarez bite, no permanent or lasting damage, nothing that took a player out of the game for more than a few seconds. Should it have been a red card? Yes, there is no place for it in the game. Even that needs some context though. Chiellini plays dirty, and very rough. It only takes a quick search on YouTube to find proof of what a dirty player he is. If he is going to play physically and violently, the ref should allow the same to be done against him, or get him out of the game immediately. Should there be a ban on Suarez? Again, yes, there is no place for it in the game, no question about it. Should the ban be as long as it is? Hell no, its no worse than people deliberately throwing elbows or punches, and there are numerous repeat offenders who never come close to this kind of punishment. So I wish the west would shut up about this. Accept that different cultures have different ways of playing, and put this in a little overall context. The President of Uruguay is right, its crap.
