I love driving. I dont know why I love it so much, but I guess its the whole experience of driving that excite me. The landscapes, while you are in the road you manage to view some breathtaking scenery, the green and brown mountains, the forests, dams, rivers if you are lucky the sea etc. those moments of irritations at very slow drivers on very narrow roads. When you waste 15 minutes behind a driver who is content with 60 km/ h, who dont see the point of doing 100 km/h on a 100 km/h zone. When suddenly u have to pull a sudden emergency stop for the 15 cows crossing the road and hoot at them in anger. Those moments of being overtaken by BMW M3 but try in vain to chase it down with your 1.1 litre engine car not because you think you will re-overtake it but just for the fun of it as you watch the M3 extend the distance as though you are not moving at all. The endless Port St Johns curves, the straight narrow roads between Ngcobo and Mthatha. All those moments of impatience you spend on Stop and Go road maintenance points. All these make the experience of driving on an open road rich. It is the frustration of a blinding sun rays of the sunset, which make u wish you had sunglasses. The beauty of witnessing a golden sunrise on top of black mountains when you drove overnight or left very early. All these experiences make driving a pleasure. People like me dont just drive to reach a particular destination, no! They drive to enjoy journey. The gear shifts, feel of the pedals, the response of the car when turning a wheel. The noise of the wheels on a tar road. The noise of the engine. All these are what feed my love for driving. Drivers like me dont mind if the mileage is increasing very quickly, we only check it to know when is the next service. The ever increasing mileage is there to remind us of our increasing driving experience. Drivers like me dont like being passengers of drivers who really love driving because chances are, you will never get to drive that car. We love being passengers of drivers who view driving as a chore and hard labour. Chances are, sooner or later Ill end up driving that car for the rest of the trip. Drivers like me feel pity for people who are excited by googles attempt to develop a car that will drive itself. All you have to do is type or speak your destination and it will take you there. This car will not have a steering wheel, no pedals. You wont need those. Its a shame that there will be people who will buy it and become passengers in their own cars for the rest of their driving life. Get away!!! For all those who love driving as much as I do, I raise a glass of something for you. My last word for you drivers with powerful cars is...ALWAYS DRIVE ON THE FAST LANE. As for me and my 1.1L Picanto(I call him Smallz) we will keep left and pass right until we get there...a}(W){e...
