I love science fiction; and while watching the John Carpenter movie, The Fog, with Adrienne Barbeau, I finally, at the age of 70, realized what I would have really liked to do with my life. Watching Adrienne talk to people through a broadcast microphone, playing songs, talking about the weather, and small time news; it would have been perfect for an introvert like me; still connected to people, but doing it from my own private little corner of the world, where no one could see me, or invade my solitude. And I would have liked to do it from a little town, away from the maddening crowds. I can just hear Simon and Garfunkle singing “hello darkness my old friend, I’ve come to talk to you again.” And the fog, well the fog would always be rolling in, because I come from a very foggy place (if you know what I mean). Oh well, maybe in the next life.
