I love short, same day deadlines and when the Wall Street Journal - TopicsExpress

I love short, same day deadlines and when the Wall Street Journal calls me at 4pm with an assignment, Ill then only have 2 hours to come up with a workable concept and create my color art. When art director Joel Cadman explained the article, it seemed that the story was about overly earnest parents who hire tutors and train their kids from infancy to get into an Ivy. I came up with 3 sketches (A, B and C) to try and convey this, but the editors then explained that the piece was more about teens unsure about choosing their educational paths. I did another series of sketches and Joel said that showing a college student opening a door into a black abyss was the way to go. Actually, I thought the two teen grads on the mortarboard see saw was a more clever way to make the point, but what do I know?
