I love these feel good stories and am amazed at how many of these little ones dreams are to become policemen one day ... who said society has not faith in the police? These little ones surely do :) A POLICE OFFICER FOR A DAY PRETORIA - The Brooklyn police opened their hearts when they received a dream request from the Reach for a Dream Foundation. Little five-year-old Siyamthanda Khumalo wished to be a police officer for a day. Siyamthanda has been diagnosed with Nephroblastoma and is currently receiving treatment. In his letter to the Reach for a Dream Foundation he indicated that he wanted to visit a police station where he wants to meet all the police officers. He also wanted to experience what it feels like to be inside a police vehicle, because one day he himself wants to join the South African Police Service. His dream materialized on Friday, 19 September 2014 when he visited the Brooklyn police station. After standing an on-duty parade with the real police officers, he left in a police car for patrol duties. Meanwhile the Waterkloof Primary School in the East of Pretoria gathered on the sportground for a crime prevention programme. They were excited to be part of a police demonstration in which Siyamthanda would be the real hero of the day. A crime scene was staged where a thief stole a womans car. The Waterkloof Primary pupils phoned the police emergency number, 10111 to report the crime. The police arrived at the scene within minutes. After a short car chase Siyamthanda assisted the police in apprehending the thief. The suspect was taken back to the Brooklyn police station where Siyamthanda took his fingerprints and detained him inside a police holding cell. The Acting Station Commander, Colonel Andrew Lesch presented Siyamthanda with a Special Police badge, a police friendship certificate and a goodie-bag. Siyamthanda then received a big police bike which he drove around the police station for the rest of the day. For the Brooklyn police officers it was a privilege to make a difference for a day in one little boys life and to work together with the Reach for a Dream Foundation. Siyamthanda said the best part of the day for him was the police siren with all the buttons which he was allowed to operate for the police.
