I love to read Hebrews 10 in the New Living Translation. It makes the story of Jesus intercession for His people so vibrant and beautifully clear. For Gods will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time. ... [Heb 10:10) Gods will is to make us holy. To be holy is to be WHOLE. It is to have the devastating effects of sin on our lives erased. It is to be restored from all our brokenness and pain. I want to be holy because I want that kind of WHOLENESS. I want to live the life I was intended to live. I want the agony of my past failures removed once and for all. But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at Gods right hand. ... [Heb 10:12,NLT] We dont need to continuously make sacrifices or do penance for our sins and failures. Jesus handled that for us on the Cross. And He sat down having finished the work of our redemption good for all time! This next verse is liberating. It declares that even though in our minds and bodies we still struggle to experience the finished work of Christ on our behalf, IN THE MIND OF GOD WE ARE NOW FOREVER PERFECT IN HIS SIGHT! For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy. [Heb 10:14 NLT) SO dont get discouraged in the process. While its true that our repeated failures weigh us down and discourage our souls, the Blood of Jesus is still effective. It is still working to bring about in our outer lives what Christ has wrought through the miracle of the new birth in our inner lives. There is no more sacrifice for sins necessary. Jesus once and for all sacrifice is sufficient. If you are truly His you Will endure. As the chapter reminds us in its conclusion, So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! ... 39 But we are not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction. We are the faithful ones, whose souls will be saved. (Heb. 10:35,39). Whisper this to your own heart right now out loud, By one sacrifice He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. By one sacrifice Jesus has forever perfected me even as I continue in His process of sanctification... I am not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction. I am a faithful one, who is saved forever by His grace! Share and repost if you like. Post your comments here.
