I love what I do. I have been a midwife for over 16 years now and I still remember my first births as a student midwife. I remember the midwives that took the time to share their knowledge and skills with me. I remember the women who taught me through their pregnancies and their deliveries how to be a good midwife. I am blessed to be able to return the favor by agreeing to share my knowledge and skills with a student midwife. We welcome Nicole Sheehan, SNM (Student Nurse Midwife). Nicole has been a critical care nurse then a labor and delivery nurse at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, so she already brings with her some labor and delivery experience. Nicole is married and has 3 children (ages 11, 4, and 2). She plans to be with us until May. Today was Nicole’s first day. Today was Nicole’s first delivery. M was a little past her due date for her second baby. She was scheduled for labor induction tomorrow, but her body thought better of it and went into labor today instead! She stopped by the office for an exam just to see if she was for sure in labor, and indeed she was! She was 5 cm dilated so we sent her to the hospital. She labored quietly, just like last time and progressed well. She lay on her side as she pushed her baby out and into Nicole’s waiting hands with me standing right next to Nicole. M rolled over and scooped her baby into her arms and loved on her brand new baby girl with that amazing smile of joy. What a great birth to be Nicole’s first! Welcome Nicole! ~Lynda
