I made an observation: Notice that all of Jaimes worst - TopicsExpress

I made an observation: Notice that all of Jaimes worst behaviors occur in the presence of Cersei.... And several people immediately jumped onto it as blaming the victim and defending rape culture. I deleted the entire thread. Because once in a while, somebody can be a bad influence on someone else without it being about the agenda. Sometimes people are bad for each other. In this case, we have two incestuous twins -- neither of whom should be held up as an honorable person, not in their culture, not in ours. That we have experienced some sympathy for Jaime does not excuse pushing a child out of a ten-story window any more than Darth Vader saving Luke Skywalker redeems him for blowing up Alderaan and killing the younglings. Elsewhere George R.R. Martin has spoken of the butterfly effect. That one small change here will have a lot of ripples later on. In the book, Jaime returns late and the first time he sees Cersei is in the sept. In the TV show, hes already been back some weeks and been rebuked by Cersei. His motivations and feelings are different, they have to be, because he returned to Kings Landing earlier in the TV show. Those who are making this about rape culture or anything else might be missing the larger point -- that all of these people have been behaving badly for quite some time. Considering the amount of murder and torture and assassinations that all of them have been party to, I find it hard to be outraged by incestuous twins who both take turns loving and loathing each other, copulating on the floor next to the dead body of their child. They werent nice people to start with. Neither of them.
