I made it back to San Diego. Funny how I am hesitant to call it home. We got in at midnight so all the lights where shining in the city reflecting off the harbor. My eyes focused in on the boats docked on the harbor and all I could think was that my son took his last breath in that same water. I look up and to most that bridge is a beautiful landmark but to me it is an albatross and I am immediately overcome with grief. I miss my son so badly. Being here is eating away at my soul. I realize that regardless of where I live I will always be incomplete but this last visit home made me feel more at ease than I have been in probably 30 years. The comradery that our generation still holds dear is amazing. It was passed on from our parents and their parents before them. Reading was at one time a community. Our village. A diverse group if kids playing together, aware of our differences but never allowing those differences to define us. Who knew that one sleepover with Gloria would benefit my children in a great way. (I learned how to grease a scalp. 😂) It saddens me to see this fading away from our youth. The lack of respect for life. The lack of love for one another. All this was foretold in the bible but how sad it is to see it come into fruition. The outreach I have received from childhood friends and family has done nothing short of sustain me during this past year. I always joke that I am Cinderella waiting for a Prince to bring me that glass slipper. (You know who you are. I hope you find me before my toes get jacked up with corns and the shoe doesnt fit anymore! Lol) Yet during this last visit I feel like I was Dorothy clicking my heels because Ive learned theres no place like home. Thank you to everyone. My family goes without saying. Phil and Dion , I could not have been given a better big or baby brother. Love you 2. As for friends, I would name you all but FB would not allow me to tag that many people. Because I am so Reading. ❤️#ittakesavillage
