I made this video over two days at the club. Ive been trying to hit a 80kg power snatch for ages but, as you can see, in the end it was just out of my reach. This video sums up what has been a very frustrating year for me with weightlifting. I came into the year with the goal of becoming incredibly strong so that I could go back into Crossfit as a beast. Initially things went well, I hit PB after PB and improved my technique out of sight at the GCWC. Eventually though my old, banished, hip injury reared its ugly head and I began to struggle once more. For a while I tried to be a blockhead and push through, but eventually I did what I should have done from the beginning and got it checked out. A casual physio appointment turned into an X-ray, which turned into an MRI, which became a CT scan and an appointment with a surgeon. They found a bony growth which was causing all my pain and discomfort. At that point I had two options, give up weightlifting, take up something better for my joints and avoid the pain OR do a surgery which would correct the abnormality and allow me to squat, but would necessitate months of rehab. I basically had the choice of being stuck, but safe or taking myself all the way back to baby - to give myself a chance to get better. In the end it was a tough choice but I went under the knife on Wednesday. The hardest part was accepting that I was basically deciding to throw two years hard work down the drain. My saving hope is that one day Ill be warming up with this weight. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
