I met a woman recently who was telling me about her struggles through life with certain disabilities that she has. I asked her could I write a song about her story, she said she would be delighted, this is what I wrote for her. Im just a small girl, living with big dreams, smothered by your view of me, so it seems. My wishes are simple, have kids and be a wife, I wont waste this gift, this gift of life... Im perfectly imperfect, not much wrong with me, I dont need your sorry looks, or your sympathy. Im perfectly imperfect, Not just what you see, I dont need your judging eyes, looking down on me. Growing up was painful, I couldnt stand my school, where did all those kids, learn to be so cruel. I couldnt wait to end, and leave it all behind, I felt like a lost girl, my soul I had to find. Im perfectly imperfect, not much wrong with me, I dont need your sorry looks, or your sympathy. Im perfectly imperfect, Not just what you see, I dont need your judging eyes, looking down on me. Its not about whats missing, focus on what you have, those words said to me, I listened and Im glad. It was only later in life, that I was able to see, that no matter who I am, this world has a place for me.
