I must appologize to some friends. I had promised to provide a drawing of how the Sumerians may have come to use the base sixty. This drawing shows that each hexagon of spheres has exactly 6 more sphere than the one before it. The 10 may be a reference to the point of connections between the spheres. Each point is surrounded by 10. And each 2 connected spheres are surrounded by 8 for a total of 10.
