I must be something special God doesnt give everyone an Aunt pronounced Aunt :) like her ~~~As you entered the first thing you saw was her love for red. Red carpet Red everything and we called this the RED room ~ It also had and old upright piano that we all had played a time or two. As you turned to the left there was a small hallway or a breezeway I guess you could call it. It was dark there and there was a picture of a creepy little girl ~ an antique for sure. Im sure she picked it up at a thrift store but never the less it was the house of many homes.Piles of this and that lined the one side~ as you made two big steps up you entered the Kitchen where most of us hung out ~ Her kitchen had two refrigerators~ I guess because she feed so many people ~ thats my thought ~ but that house held so many memories ~~ Memories of my first job my first job was cleaning those refrigerators she would give me a clean rag and tell me to wipe them down ~ She would pay in dollars but the biggest pay of all was the encouragement that she also offered. As others entered the kitchen ~~ Look girls how well she cleaned those refrigerators :) and I couldnt help but to stand tall and feel good about myself ~ So glad she had two refrigerators~ those dollars were so helpful at the time~but the encouragement has lasted a lifetime~ The table was pushed up against the wall she had a glass basket that was filled with important mail ~ Aunts spot was the one closest to the window ~right next to fan in the front window ~ and she had time to talk ~ and you knew she could keep a secret ~ She was best therapist you could ever have ~ It was all free~~~~ and always ended with a prayer that only an Aunt could pray ~~~~ At Aunts there was a community Ice water ~ Im not talking about a cup filled with cubes of Ice it was came straight from aunts ice machine she would fill cups with water and freeze ~ I guess this was her signature ~~ a cup with little dirty hand prints on the outside ~ that had the coldest water around ~ Aunts cup ~ made me feel clean and accepted ~ she drank after me and I drank after her~ She stood at the stove most of the time ~ Sometimes I talked as she listened~ and most of the time I stayed to eat whatever she was cooking ~ Her living room was dark ~ but it drew the light~ It was the place where I attended my first home revival we had church right there in her livingroom some of the best preachers around stopped in to spread the word ~ and singers sang their song ~ That was years ago but some days when Im in need I return to the living room for a song or a word ~ or togetherness ~ Her JOB I guess you could say was to take care of the elderly ~ but that really seemed the least of what she did ~ I seen her as a Doctor ~ if I was was not feeling well she would say a very powerful prayer ~ and left me with a gift like a doll or something that seemed to ease whatever was ailing me ~ I have never came across a better Dr yet ~ I guess kids now days have tutors ~ I had Her ~ She would help me with spelling words~ and Home work ~ And I worked extra hard to please her ~ She played Chinese checkers , and drew really neat faces, baked awesome bread and to die for cookies She had dogs ( that got to stay in the House) I liked when she would dance a silly dance~ or sit on couch and just hold my hand ~ She had chips and pop, and little knick knacks, She had a polaroid camera that helped catch lots of memories ~ Time marches on but still I visit that house often ~ Late one-night in the the winter of 1998 ~ I received a call that her house had burt to the ground ~ A lot was lost that night but my memories are still the same ~ No fire nor flame could take that away ~~
