I must say, the whole idea of open theism is new to me but makes a lot of sense, especially in relation to prayer and how we interact with God. I do have a question though (probably one of many I will ponder). We know that scripture and prophecy will be (and has been previously) fulfilled and, as is obvious from Revelation, we know the ultimate fate of Satan and all who follow him. My question is, if the future is changeable according to how we interact with God, how does this correspond to the unchangeable fate of Satan? We know the Lake of Fire was created specifically for him and all (demons and people) who follow him but what is to stop Satan from actually repenting and God changing His mind about his (Satans) fate? I know this will not occur because scripture is very clear on this (especially Revelation 19) but I was simply pondering this thought today and figured this would be the place to present it for discussion. I must also add that the concept of open theism is very appealing in light of prayer. I was always troubled by the traditional view of God knowing and determining the future regardless of our decisions and this always presented a stumbling block to me about the purpose of prayer. My thoughts were that if God has already set everything in place then why bother praying if it doesnt change anything? Clearly though, prayer DOES change the way God deals with people and situations. Scripture is full of such examples, not the least of which was Moses interceding for rebellious Israel when he came down from Mt. Sinai. Anyway, I look forward to reading your responses to my question about the ultimate fate of Satan.
