I must tell you about this funny guy lets call Jorge. Hes the senior waiter at Ciutat Mondial, one of the best tapa places in Barcelona. He was happy to see we were a big bunch of Filipinos, me reminding him that I had eaten there years back and met all the Filipinos working there and how they gave me an extra tapa here and there for free. Jorge is from Pasig and he came to Spain 35 years ago and it sounded like he worked in this tapa place since then. In the beginning he got shit from the other workers probably because he wasnt versed yet in Spanish and the ways there. Hed get teased or insulted and his way of getting back was when they asked his name, hed say titi mo! And hed chuckle to himself. So the restaurant gave him that code name from thence on on all the receipts for tables he served. They just thought that was his nickname. Youll see it on the upper left of the receipt. He seems to be quite comfy now with his life though he talks retirement and coming home. He got all the other Filipinos to work at that place, probably about ten and more in the kitchen. Hes the OFW hero with a sense of humor, taking all the licks, and getting back when he can. (Jorge in the middle in white. Another Filipino to the right.)
