I need advice. I was approached by a friend, whos mainly a facebook friend, a month ago, and he asked if he could borrow a tent for a weekend. I immediately agreed and he came round within the hour and picked it up. I took the care to check if it had all the poles and pegs, explained how to put it up. I had no reason to not trust him. He hasnt given it back, and isnt responding to my messages, and has removed my pleas to return it from his facebook timeline, twice. I absolutely need it this week as Im going away. I dont know where he lives so I cant go round and pick it up. I dont know if hes damaged or lost it, I dont know anything. Hes offered no explanation other than a family member was ill in hospital for a while, although I dont know how this stopped him returning my tent. So, do I go to the police and report him for theft? Do I give up and buy a new one and then go to the small claims court to get him to pay for the replacement? Do I buy a new one and write it off to experience? I just dont know. Im a nice person, I trust people. This person looks like theyre abusing my trust and generosity, but without the full story from his viewpoint, I dont know. Help.
