I need some quick help! I just had a quick project come across my desk at work, but Im conflicted on how to handle it.. I was given two PDFs from another company. Basically, product installation instruction sheets containing step-by-step photos and directions. I was told to modify the files to reflect our brand (i.e. change logos, colors, fonts, etc.) but keep the photos, text, etc. The file names even literally include the language rip-off and steal. So, I am being directed to blatantly steal/plagiarize copyrighted material. I inquired about whether or not were actually stealing this stuff, or if this is more of a creative direction. I was assured that yes, we want to blatantly steal this stuff, but its fine and we wont get in trouble and we do it all the time. As a designer, Im really uncomfortable doing this. Id like to think Ive got a little more backbone than this. At the same time, I dont want to get in trouble or put under the microscope for refusing to do work for my employer. What do I do? Do I do the work and feel shitty about it and just keep my head down and get on with life? Or do I grow a pair and tell my supervisor that no, I refuse to blatantly steal another companys content? It is copyrighted material, as is stated at the foot of the pages. I know any legal repercussions will land on my employer and not me, but still.. Im highly uncomfortable doing this. Thoughts? Input? Advice?
