Several things that made me sort of laugh yesterday at what is supposed to be a serious affair(funeral). Funeral was in HC at 10am. Found out we had to rush the minister through his eulogy as we had to make it to the VA in Marion no later than 11am. Or else they would not be able to do the color guard ceremony. Joe was an airforce veteran. You have to chuckle a little a the image of the minister trying to say everything that he wanted in a less than 20 minutes. Rush the casket out to the hearse, everyone jump into their vehicles.....zoom out only to find out that road 500 had been rocked and tarred. Which of course slowed everyone down...especially poor Amber Keith, in her brand new car that she had just had washed before the funeral. We even had people who were mowing their lawns pull their mowers to a halt as the funeral procession sped by down the country road! We barely made it to the VA, a minute or two past 11am. During the ministers part of the ceremony a the VA, We had to laugh when a train kept blowing its whistle loudly as it went by on the nearby tracks...all you could see was the Minister bravely moving his lips, (yet we couldnt hear him)lol. I looked past my husband, to see Jim Barry trying hard not to double over with laughter. I believe Joe would have gotten a chuckle from this too. But the most beautiful and touching part of the whole thing to me personally...was when they did the airforce ceremony, playing taps...(which always brings tears to my eyes, even in the best of circumstances). Really touched me when they very distinctly folded the flag with great ceremony and handed it to my nephew Casey Thornburgh. I am only assuming that Caseys the son chosen to be the recipient of this, as he is a member of the National Guard. I believe the Joe, Betty Thornburgh, and all of the other relatives who have passed were crying and laughing yesterday as the ceremony came to a close. It was a lot different than most funerals. BUt I am very glad that I attended. I cannot say all good things about him, but I also cannot say only bad. At least he is no longer in pain. RIP
