I never really thought about how much my husband and I really do not go together until a conversation we had with one of our friends at Wal-Mart the other night. Our friend Osie, who is a preacher like my husband and an assistant manager at Walmart was asking my husband how we make it work because we are so obviously in love with each other. Osie is fascinated at how on the surface we so obviously dont fit, yet we do, so my husband attempted to explain “us” the best way he could. As my husband began to describe how we began he used the word patience and compared it to taming a wild animal. At that point I started thinking about how we really are like night and day. I am Lil Wayne to his John Denver. He is calm and I am a hurricane. He is light and I am darkness. He is smiles and I am tears. His soul is soft and mine is steel. He is forgiveness and I am revenge. He is trust and I am suspicion. He is reserved and I am uninhibited. He is laughter and I am a smile. He is a song and I am a word. I could go on like this all day, but the point that I am trying to make is that just because we are total opposites does not mean that it cannot work. It works because we complement each other. My weaknesses are his strengths and vice versa. Opposites can work. Most people expected my husband to marry a nice, respectable church gal who had never been married before able to bare his children, lead his choir and teach Sunday school (not). The preacher was expected to marry someone without tats, piercings, a dirty mouth, or a bad attitude…..but guess what? That is not where God lead him! God lead him where he is supposed to be and it works. Sometimes you find what you need where you least expect it. My husband is not my type……AT ALL, but someone (Jesus) led me right to him. No matter how many times I tried to deny it, run away, walk away, turn away, party him away my path lead me right back to him every time. Just because the surface doesn’t fit does not mean that the roots do not fit and this is where it matters the most.
