I never really thought of myself as someone who would get married - TopicsExpress

I never really thought of myself as someone who would get married - I didnt think it was a complete no-no but it certainly wasnt a priority in my life - and then I met Peggy and marriage was really important to her , so when she asked, I thought sure why not, well not immediately , but a month later I was lying in the think tank (bath) and something had happened, some reminder that life was short - so shouted to Peggy in the kitchen lets get married ( subtext; it will be a fun party i thought) I certainly felt committed to her regardless. What has really surprised me is how much Ive enjoyed the status of marriage! Not in a traditional or hetronormative way, but in the way that people take your relationship seriously when you married, and as a person who is a woman married to another woman, thats really important to me - besides the legal convenience of marriage, your friends and family look at your relationship in a more serious light, yep this persons gonna be a around for a while so most of them make more of an effort. I didnt get married for my community - I did it to make my wife happy in all honesty, because it was of no consequence to me, or so I thought - Im strangely surprised at how much I Iove being married (and also I think its a good way to make people be a bit more persevering on the issue of sharing a life, divorce is really a mission ;) ) - you have to give it your best! Ive certainly figured out that most gurus retain their guru like status because mostly they single - yes relationships are challenging, but I wouldnt change being married for anything
