I never wanted to be in this position....my half sister Karen, had a heart attack yesterday. She is considerably older than me and has had bad luck with her health. Diabetes, congestive heart failure, and side effects from both...failing eyesight, swelling, lots of pain in her legs, etc. She has been pretty miserable the past year or so, with the worst being in the past few months in and out of the hospital. She was DNR, but they spent over 30 minutes trying to revive her. The Doctor is certain she has brain damage and even if not, will never function in any capacity. She had a living will, and the doctor called me this morning to ask/recommend taking her off the vent to honor her wishes. I called my brother in California and we decided to let her go and not let her suffer anymore. My brother was just here in May and got to spend some time with her in rehab. She was unable to walk, so we just visited with her at the facility. In a few hours I will be saying my final goodbye to my only sister. I pray that she will find peace with the Lord. I think that she believed in God, but did not live a Christian life. I ask that you all pray for her to be at peace and for me because this is the hardest decision Ive ever had to make. Thank you
