I never write political messages on facebook. I try to barely utter them at all and avoid such discussions. Too much conflict and hatred is involved for me to bear. But that is what struck me as I walked through times square last week amidst Palestinian protesters. I couldnt ignore the hatred as I literally walked through it on my way home and it disturbed me to my core. I see they showed up again for Israels demonstration on Sunday: vosizneias/172143/2014/07/20/new-york-ny-in-photos-thousands-rally-for-israel-in-nyc/ I know much is at stake, but I still believe that groups screaming hatefully at one another does not spread a message of peace. I felt disappointed in New Yorkers. To me this is a place where people from all walks of life- one of the most diverse spots on the planet- demonstrate how it is possible to coexist and love one another. Perhaps it is unimaginable, but I would have found it a much more powerful message to see Israelis and Palestinians hugging. I wish for future generations to truly experience New York as I saw it as a child: a place that shows the world the possibility of love, rather than just another place that spreads the disease of hatred.
