I noticed a comment someone made recently, and have given a lot of thought to it. The comment was this: God has prepared wives for men in _________________ (a particular continent), from all over the world. I have a couple of concerns about that. It so happens that in most countries in that continent, women have few rights traditionally, and in some cases no rights. One person who lives there mentioned that women are thought of as property, like a chair. And, the typical lifestyle for most, is one of poverty. Thus, for women who live in countries such as America, and in European countries, it would be a very major, and very negative change. Especially is there a concern if the prospective husband asks the woman for money, etc. That should be a red flag. But the part which gave me special concern, was the assertion that God has prepared wives for these men, in countries such as, primarily, America and Europe. When a man says to a woman, God has shown me that he has prepared you to be my wife, then that is, essentially, spiritual abuse. Claiming the authority of God for what one wants, and taking it out of the other persons hands. I would sound a cautionary note. First, in regard to the drastic cultural changes involved in such a situation. Secondly, beware of someone who says that God has told him that YOU are to be his wife! Such a thing should not be said. If it is from God, he will make it clear to you, in His own way and time. I mention these things because I have heard of this type of thing happening to people in this group. For your thoughts!
