From a parent in response to the negative media surrounding Kristin Cavallaris informed decision to not vaccinate her own children. This parent was asked to join the discussion: Ive argued well before (same deal, use the studies--they definitely DO exist!) and shut people down, but I dont have the desire to get into these debates with paid trolls anymore. And thats exactly what they are. No offense, but I have a limited amount of energy, none of which Im gonna waste on debating with others and their own brand of religious zealoutry (and I am a Christian), and thats exactly what this is. Science in this capacity is a religion. Holy Grail? Cash Cow? Either one has interesting connotations Im gonna leave alone. I will, however, continue sharing my personal experience (just like yesterday with the bakery manager at Kroger who orders my gluten free muffins/breads and has a 9 month old shes concerned about) with people around me, one conversation at a time, with people in my life who know me, who know my children, and people who understand that I will treat them with respect because their choice is theirs. No fear/judgment here. I dont have time for the arguments thrown around about Jenny McCarthy, or Aidan Quinn, or Rob Reiner, or Holly Robinson Peete (and countless others!!, since families with autism are EVERYWHERE now...wonder why? and I mean no disrespect to any of them; theyre parents just like me, acting just happens to be their employment, big deal.) or any of the rest of the celeb crowd, because, as we know, its only ok to be a celebrity and talk about vaccines (not openly, mind you) if youre on pharma payroll, hence nobody ever talking about the lack of scientific credentials (or cup/brain size) of people like Amanda Peete, Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez, Allysa Milano and several others have when promoting them. Interesting, isnt it? And then there are the patents, the sitting on boards, the conflicts of interest (not just in teaching hospitals and med schools, but in the publishing of research itself), and all sorts of other dirty details that like to be left out. Who else would have a better working knowledge and be more qualified to teach future healthcare providers about vaccines than the very industry who creates them? Makes sense, right? I have no use for any of it anymore. I just dont have time for it. You know why? Because all *I* have time for anymore is taking care of 3 vaccine-injured kids and giving up sleep to spend nights after they go to bed reading research studies on pubmed and ncbi to figure out whats actually going on, because its NOT psychologically-based. When my kids are fully recovered...and they WILL be, make no mistake-- were about 75-80% back now from regressing at different points, complete loss of language, eye contact, motor skills, screeching, screaming, toe-walking, head banging, severe GI issues and much more, the results will speak for themselves. Cant argue with that. Hopefully that didnt come off as angry or directed at anyone in particular. Its not meant that way. I havent written anything in a while clarifying my stance and wanted to make sure people knew it hadnt changed, since its been a while. Happy Sunday! JV
