I offended a gay male friend today when I commented on someone being both artistic and masculine. He informed me he was offended at the suggestion that artsy is effeminate. Such gender binaries are rooted in misoggyny, you know. I replied, by all means tell me more. I WANT to think differently, but everytime I have, stereotypes have been proven true. He said he is over assigned gender roles. To a point, I agree. But I keep falling for artistic guys then finding out they are gay. Doesnt change the friendship. But it could prevent wasted time in the search for Prince Charming if I knew ahead of time. I mean, I love Cam on Modern Family. Im susceptible. If I had better gaydar, gender roles would matter less. He thought I needed to upgrade my version of Gaydar to 3.0. I said I chalk it up to intellect and creativity carrying more weight than other variables, and while I didnt assume it right off the bat, gay men seem to own that territory. I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this. I know I have a lot of friends on every possible side of this .... hmmm.....not triangle....more like a hexagram. Please do not be afraid to voice an opinion.
