I often heard about parents living vicariously through their children. Well, I confess - guilty as charged here. I left the John Glenn Gymnasium earlier this evening after seeing Patrick march into the overcrowded Muskingum University Gym for the annual Homecoming. Arm in arm with his escort - both were seeking to be crowned King and Queen for the Football game tomorrow. We were so proud of him. His sister Katie standing in the top row cheering with her sisters of the Kianu Sorority Pat for King!! Unfortunately Pats name would not be announced tonight - instead another young student worthy of the homecoming crown would be selected. To no surprise - Pats stoic presence on stage melted into a big warm smile hearing the name announced. I felt his emotion at that moment - and in my eyes - he already won. To see these Jersey kids transplanted into this quaint farming community in Ohio, surrounded by their friends cheering them on was indescribable and something I will never forget. Having the opportuity to go to College is a gift that I wish every kid could enjoy. I know I wished I had the same opportunity at that age.
