I once regarded as childish and human - all too human - the Old Testament idea of a God that fumed with rage, who was jealous, who burned with love, and could be disillusioned. The abstract god of the philosophers, purified of all human images, seemed to me nearer the truth. But the more I experienced how abstraction destroyed life, the more I understood the Old Testament passion of God, and the pain which tore his heart. Jurgen Moltmann.
