I once skated with the Hockey Hero, Jean Béliveau, may he rest in - TopicsExpress

I once skated with the Hockey Hero, Jean Béliveau, may he rest in Peace, in the late 70s when I lived and taught in Sault Ste. Marie. It was a game between the City Fathers and the local clergy and being one of the Flying Nuns that took part along with Carolyn Schan, RIP, I got to do a shoot out in that game! But the most memorable of all, was skating with Jean Beliveau. Having grown up in a small town in Northwestern Ontario (Red Rock) of two French-Canadian parents, my dad especially was a BIG Montreal Canadiens fan!! So naturally, I knew about Jean Belliveau! My how he skated with grace! and I remember him as a very gentle man and yes, about 4 strides and he was down the ice!!! There was no keeping up to him... Then, just a few years ago when I saw the documentary in which he talked about his walk around the world for Peace for the Children of the world I was so moved and impressed. We are hearing a lot right now about his life in hockey, but I do not want us to forget his remarkable journey on foot to draw attention to the needs of the children... John Podgorski, Linda Sambol, Denis Landry, Margot Van Sluytman, Evelyn Richter, Glynis Ellerington, Denise Boissoneau, Michael McIntyre, Ann-Marie Boudreau, Diane Jung, Mary Ann Conlin, Suzan Nolan, Mary Morrill Cunningham, Barbara Joan Belknap, Lynn Landry-Rody, Tony Landry, Tony Martin, Janine Bertolo, Anne Hanley, Alma Norman, Mary Sheridan, Jean Béliveau wrote a book about this amazing life experience and a DVD was produced about it all.
