I only danced one dance. But it was a very nice dance. I got to be - TopicsExpress

I only danced one dance. But it was a very nice dance. I got to be vulnerable in a safe space. Unsure of how to be led, as opposed to lead. But what I saw took me back to day not quite four years ago, when I presented at my first national transgender conference. We had a dinner on Saturday evening, and there were about 100 people in the room, most of us transgender. No one needed to hide their true self. Everyone able to just be, and be free. No looking over the shoulder to see who was watching. No pretense of presenting some asinine version of who you are supposed to be. Just be. And be free. Natural. Correct. True. What I saw were young people being able to do what they do best. Be alive and be unencumbered by the fabricated and false expectations of a world that far-too-often gathers evidence from fear and ignorance. And what I saw was joy. The kind of joy that can only come from the freedom of self. The kind of joy we deny our children when we attempt to create them, rather than to enable them to create themselves. What I saw contained no such denial. No need for it. No place for it. I only danced one dance. But it was a very nice dance. I got to be vulnerable in a safe space. Unsure of how to be led, as opposed to lead.
