I plan to stay up till midnight tonight just to make sure 2014 is really gone, lol. And while it has been a challenging year, with joy and sorrow in full measure, it couldnt leave without its full measure of frustration - I wanted to make my famous chocolate mousse for dinner - its supposed to be easy - you put 6 oz of chocolate chips, 2 eggs, 3/4 c scalded milk, a few TBSP of strong coffee, a few tsp of sugar, and 2 TBSP of rum in the blender, turn on high for 2 minutes, then chill--it is a family favorite, and Ive made it countless times over the last 40 years, with never a failure - and I figured I would then sit back by the fire, relax, and enjoy the last day of the year...marking time until 5 when I could open a nice bottle of wine.... so I went to make myself a cup of coffee, planning on using a little extra for the mousse - and couldnt get the coffee grinder to work. By the time I had finished, a plastic piece of the coffee grinder bin was missing, the grinder was in the trash, a new one was on order with Amazon. The mousse would have to be without a few TBSP of coffee.... As I was assembling the ingredients in the blender, I discovered we were out of rum and had to make a trip to HyVee. By the time I got home the scalded milk had begun to cool so when I turned the blender on high it didnt quite melt the chocolate chips, so the mousse is a little lumpy. and did i mention that upon coming home from the grocery store, I broke a nail bringing in the big garbage can.... But the mousse is now in the refrigerator, and I dont think Ill wait till 5 to open that bottle of wine... Happy New Year! ...and as Oprah once said, Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.
