I posted this as a response to a link on ebola .. We North Americans often refuse to even acknowledge that we are all going to die...well we are...I was in a Catholic Church in Rome, Italy and they had a room off the church full of bones...they were made to look like people...and angels, etc. When I asked the priest way they had this, he said it was a mediation on death, so that we would remember to think about our actions in this life and remember to live well..with humanity....The Buddhist say we should contemplate death everyday...not to be morbid but to tell us to live well and kindly. Keep death on your left shoulder, so it will remind how to live I have worked around and with folks with full blown AIDS back in the day when they were all dying ...I kissed them on the mouth, hugged them and gave them back rubs..(why because most people had deserted them) guess what I do not have AIDS....so folks shut up and stop the hysteria. Something is going kill us...worry when you need to worry..when we stigmatize folks we can get real mean in the process...I have seen it when I worked with folks with AIDS.
