I posted this on the NEFA forum, but wanted to get it here for those of you who do not frequent that page. Updated info for the Trilogy Challenge. So, most of the plans for this event have changed. Were doing this on Friday, July 18th now and running it as a flex start. Details Date: Friday, July 18th, 2014 Time: Flex start, tee any time between 10AM and 6PM Where: The Hill Cost: $30 (you get three brand new discs, one from DD, one from Lat64, and one from Westside along with a bunch of other swag) Registration: Will begin in early June, shortly after the 28-Chain Salute at The General. Pre-registration is HIGHLY encouraged. I am going to get a few extra players packs to allow for a couple walk-ups, but Im not going to get a lot. If you want in, sign up ahead of time. Ive talked with the guys at Hawks Nest and theyve agreed to let us run tournament central from their shop! Well have players packs there and youll simply come in, check in, and then cut through the fence and start on hole 13. Thisll be a great way to get new players out (they get everything theyll need to keep playing) and it will also be a great fundraiser for Devens disc golf. Any money above the cost of players packs that isnt needed for various small tournament costs will go directly to the course. General questions, just ask. Ill answer a few of the ones I anticipate below: Can I just buy a players pack and not play? Sure. Its a great way to get some high quality plastic and support a local course. Can I buy more than one players pack? Yep! They are still $30. I would encourage experience tournament golfers to think about buying a second and bringing someone new out with them to introduce them to the game and just flat out give them the extra pack you bought. Grow the sport! Can I play multiple rounds? Yes! For a price. $10 for each additional round youd like to play. (You do not get an extra players pack unless you buy one ahead of time) Is there a cash payout? Not at this point. Im thinking about allowing anyone who wants to buy into an optional side pot. In my mind, if you do this you will also opt-out of the normal prize pack and simply be playing for cash at that point. PM me if you have feelings about this one way or the other and Ill announce a decision at some point. If we do go this route, itll be a day of fee so we dont have to worry about going through paypal for it. Are PDGA rules going to be in effect? Yes... and no. This is supposed to be a fun event and an introduction to the sport, so we wont worry about the player conduct restrictions that are normally in effect at events. We also wont get all crazy about foot-faults and falling putts (unless you know better!) If you see violations of any normal rules, or are playing with players who flat out dont know them, help them! Teach them! Encourage them! The one thing that Im going to be a stickler about is tap-ins or gimmes. Many players have wildly varying conceptions of what a gimme is so here is going to be the definition well use for the day, if you can reach your arm out and set the disc in the basket, then it is a gimme. If you cant do that, the putt must be made. How will groupings be decided? Groupings will be between 3 and 6 players per card and will be mostly decided by when you come in. You can play with the people you want if you show up at the same time, or you can wait if you know someone you want to play with is coming at a later point. This will be fun! Get excited! And more importantly: get thinking about someone who has never played or never played a tournament and get them to come too! Buy their pack if you have to! Get youngsters and women out! And Masters and Grands and Legends! And Open players! Really, just everyone!
