I ran across this short list of celebrities with Chiari and Im sure there are many more that have it but havent disclosed it. I think a celebrity could bring great awareness and funding opportunities to support in fighting this incurable disorder. Chairi has stricken some people whose names youll recognize. Rosanne Cash, singer-songwriter/writer and eldest child of the late Johnny Cash, was diagnosed in 2007 with Type I and underwent brain surgery that year. She has recovered and resumed her career. Bruce Campbell, University of Maryland football star who now plays with the NFLs San Diego Chargers, underwent surgery for Chiari when in high school. Marissa Irwin, model known for cover shots on Seventeen and other magazines, underwent brain and spinal surgery during high school at The Chiari Institute, where Evansville resident Bryan Cole was operated on four times in 2009 and 2010. Bobby Jones, amateur golfer who died in 1971, was paralyzed as a result of Chiari malformation. Not many may know but scholarship opportunities are available from the proceeds of the Bobby Jones Open for people with CM or SM to pursue their education.
