I ran into someone at the grocery story and she reminded me that my kids had missed a local event. I said, Yes, it was too bad. Weve all been really sick and are just starting to recover. She cocked her head, narrowed her eyes and said, Wellll, you dont sound too bad. Not sure what I was supposed to respond to that. Maybe thank you? Maybe ooops, you got me. I thought Id stay in my house for three weeks, cut my work productivity to 25%, get behind on some deadlines, and make sure my kids missed out on good fun so I could pretend to be sick and get lots of sympathy by random acquaintances I meet in the grocery store. Darn it. I guess it didnt work.
