I rarely make new years resolutions. Many of the promises I hear - TopicsExpress

I rarely make new years resolutions. Many of the promises I hear others make are about things they will do for themselves. Lose weight, stop smoking, exercise more, eat more naturally, etc. While they are all good things, it seems to me to modeled after the phrase God helps those who help themselves. For the last 45 years I have been searching for that verse of scripture. In fact it is opposite of what the inspired Word tells us. LOVE OTHERS. Love one another. God helps the helpless! Isaiah 25:4 declares, For You have been a defense for the helpless, a defense for the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat... The lord is willing to help people, oftentimes through me, and YOU! The worship that God wants is this: caring for orphans or widows who need help and keeping yourself free from the world’s evil influence. This is the kind of worship that God accepts as pure and good. (James 1:27) It isnt wrong to care for SELF but Gods help does not hinge on whether or not you help yourself. He helps because of his grace and mercy. He is a good and loving father. We should care for the temple, being the body of flesh and blood, and offer it to the lord. That is honorable, but what a difference we would make in the world if we learned to put others ahead of ourselves. Do nothing from factional motives [through contentiousness, strife, selfishness, or for unworthy ends] or prompted by conceit and empty arrogance. Instead, in the true spirit of humility (lowliness of mind) let each regard the others as better than and superior to himself [thinking more highly of one another than you do of yourselves]. Begin with me, Holy Spirit. I want to be and offer my utmost for His highest. I choose to commit to submitting to the lord, more than ever, and to be used to reach others with love, and glorify my heavenly father.
