I reached 80% complete on Code Academy within a few days and then decided to teach myself via YouTube and various online materials for the remainder of the week, once I felt I had outgrown CA. Although CA was very useful and utterly ESSENTIAL for learning how to program in Ruby (and inspiring me to go further) because you actually create and modify small programs through its interactive interface, its application was somewhat limited and I felt the material was extremely rudimentary, even for a complete novice. I have totally SATURATED myself in Ruby for the past 7 days straight, even listening to tutorials whenever I was in my car. Non-stop 24/7 Ruby mode lol. I feel very comfortable in the language, and after resisting for more than a few days because I wanted to really grasp Ruby before I moved on, I have finally started on RAILS! NOW the MAGIC is all coming together! I also want to add that I started to program for one reason: To gain a greater understanding of the Universe. I program for pure pleasure. In the last 7 days, I have been overwhelmed with joy and awe as I see the entire Cosmos in a totally new and extremely refreshing way. I think it is imperative for more SCIENTISTS to learn computer programming! We need a new and updated model of the universe based on the NEW SCIENCE of information and quantum information computational theories! We also need to TEACH programming to KIDS, so that in 100 years from now, knowing how to program is as standard as knowing how to read and write. Lets start a movement! WHO IS WITH ME!? :)
